William "Bill" Palmer, Ph.D

Today's Trailblazers

May 10, 2018

Image Bill Palmer is the President, CEO, and Director of Research of Tall Timbers, a widely regarded information resource for the areas of fire ecology, game bird management, vertebrate ecology, and forestry in North Florida and the Red Hills region of Georgia.

Bill has an extensive portfolio of work, but his most well-known area of expertise is within the salvation of a species of quail—the bobwhite quail—in northern Florida.

He advocates for responsible human interactions with nature within his region, protecting certain areas for conservation and research. Bill has helped save and restore grassland habitats on 100,000 acres of public lands through the use of prescribed fire and good forestry techniques. Beyond his conservation work, Bill has mentored countless students who have achieved their own conservation and research efforts.

When it comes to being a trailblazer in the fight for conservation, science, and the environment, Bill is at the top of the list.
