3 Fun Fall Activities in Meridian, Mississippi
An Easy Getaway in the Heart of SEC Nation
Conveniently located just minutes from I-59/20, downtown Meridian is a perfect weekend getaway or stopover in route to see your favorite college team play this fall. With loads of arts and culture in this historic, easily walkable downtown, here are three can’t-miss activities you’re sure to enjoy.
Stroll through Downtown
Book a stay at the beautifully restored art deco Threefoot Hotel and explore one-of-a-kind museums and diverse shops lining the city’s streets. After browsing the boutiques, enjoy a meal at Mississippi’s oldest restaurant, or perhaps a craft beer at a 1920s bank-turned-brewpub. End an incredible evening with a premium cigar in a retro-feel lounge or with a cocktail in hand while watching a spectacular sunset on a rooftop bar.
Attend a Festival
In the fall, festivals abound in Meridian. Friday, October 6, Full Moon on Fifth is a unique block party that includes live music, art exhibits, activities for the kids, and great food.
For those wanting to enjoy delicious local cuisine in a festival atmosphere, there’s FEASTival on Fifth. On Saturday, October 14, FEASTival is a cultural celebration that offers attendees an opportunity to sample a variety of dishes from around the world, all made by local restaurants.
For gear heads and train fanatics, Whistlestop Weekend features Soulé Live Steam Festival and Railfest the first weekend in November every year. This doubleheader festival kicks off Friday with Soule’ Live Steam Festival at the Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum. See working steam engines and live demonstrations, like molten metal pouring, on Friday and Saturday, at the country’s last intact steam engine factory. On Saturday, Railfest cranks up just a block over at the Meridian Railroad Museum, where you’ll find model and real trains on display, live music, and kid-friendly activities.
Catch a Show
When in downtown Meridian, you don’t have to go far for live entertainment. The MSU Riley Center’s fully restored historic theater is just steps away from the Threefoot Hotel and consistently draws national touring artists, from Lake Street Dive and Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Pat Metheny and Patti LaBelle. You can also catch great local and regional talent at local brew pubs and restaurants throughout downtown on just about any day of the week.
