Dessert is obviously the best part of any meal, especially if you’re in Mississippi. Decadent sweets are as plentiful in the Magnolia State as its Southern hospitality.  Here are some of the sweetest spots in all of Mississippi:

La Brioche Bakery / Jackson

What began as a dream of two sisters is now a reality in Jackson. A visit to La Brioche Bakery feels like a step inside a French bakery thanks to its many European influences. The bakery specializes in pastries, gelato, French macarons, crepes, and even espresso, using only the highest-quality ingredients for every delicious item that comes out of its kitchen.

Bottletree Bakery / Oxford

There’s no better spot in Oxford to satisfy a sweet tooth than Bottletree Bakery. Located in The Square, the charming storefront is known for its European-style breads and pastries, as well as its offerings of specialty coffees and deli sandwiches, which are baked fresh from scratch daily.

Happy Daze Dairy Bar / Nesbit

Happy Daze Dairy Bar in Nesbit offers the best of both worlds: savory comfort food like burgers and fries, along with meal-ending treats such as shakes and ice cream. The family-operated business offers a long list of ice cream flavors—from amaretto and almond to peanut butter and pina colada—and they can be served up in everything from waffle cones and sundaes to shakes, malts, and banana splits.

Velvet Cream / Hernando

Velvet Cream—known affectionately to locals as “The Dip”—has been a Hernando institution for decades. In fact, it’s the oldest continuously run restaurant in the county, having opened in 1947. Velvet Cream continues to be a favorite local hangout, thanks in part to its delicious burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, and fries, as well as its desserts. The eatery’s dessert menu includes soft custard ice cream (its original offering since it opened), hand-scooped ice cream, gelato, snow cones, milkshakes, malts, sundaes, and even cookies, brownies, and cheesecake.

When seeking out a scrumptious bite of cake in Natchez, look no further than Butter Cakery. Owner Alexis Lehrman was inspired by her grandmother’s love of baking, and she opened up her shop using many of her cherished recipes. In addition to custom orders for special occasions, Butter Cakery specializes in a variety of cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.
