A Well(ness) Deserved Retreat

Montage Palmetto Bluff presents an immersive wellness retreat, southern style

Words by Paige Townley

For decades, there has been no better place than Palmetto Bluff to experience the best of nature. Nestled along the May River in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, the 20,000-acre community, home to the luxurious, picturesque Montage Palmetto Bluff, abounds with natural beauty and abundant flora and fauna. Thanks to the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy, which has fostered and preserved the land since 2003, the property continues to serve as an ideal destination to unwind, relax, and connect with nature.

Moreover, there’s also no better place to practice wellness. Whether relaxing under the centuries-old live oaks, meandering down one of the many trails, fishing, or simply spending a tranquil afternoon at the on-site spa, Montage Palmetto Bluff intrinsically offers a serene, calming environment as well as a variety of health-centric activities and experiences to help guests recharge and engage in self-care.

Building upon its already-established rolodex of unique offerings, the resort will soon host its inaugural ‘Well Living Weekend,’ a three-day, immersive wellness event featuring renowned speakers, healers, and practitioners, such as Deepak Chopra, John Amaral, among others. From July 23-25, the retreat will offer guests an array of workshops and activities, including guided meditations, art therapy, and yoga, and motivational panels and discussions focused exclusively on wellbeing in every form – body, mind, and soul.

“Wellness lifestyle is not often associated with the South, but it’s really an overlooked wellness destination,” explains Montage Palmetto Bluff Managing Director Casey Lavin. “Outdoor activities are embedded in our everyday lives and we have such a rich environment to engage in, so blending our traditions of wellness and connection with more modern concepts in wellness will create an incredibly unique opportunity.”

The event kicks off Friday evening with Ayurveda expert and certified stress management teacher, Ashish Pandaya, followed by a social hour for guests to mingle and enjoy specialty cocktails and plant-based bites. Saturday’s schedule features Deepak Chopra’s keynote address on The Future of Wellbeing as well as a lineup of interactive activities including group sound bath and meditation as well as a talk about energy flow from Dr. John Amaral DC, creator of the Energy Flow Formula. A variety of studios will also be open for guests to select from on a range of topics, from a discussion on gut health by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, a board-certified gastroenterologist and gut health expert, art therapy with Nashville-based artist Amanda Norman, and the benefits of plant-based cooking with Corporate Executive Chef of Café Gratitude, Seizan Dreux Ellis. Lastly, to close out the retreat on Sunday, guests can experience Sarah Frick’s “The Works” movement session, a dynamic blend of vinyasa yoga, meditation, plyometrics and core work, and attend a panel discussion on Eating to Save the Planet from Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, Ryland Engelhart and Chef Seizan Dreux Ellis.

“We are excited to showcase what Montage Palmetto Bluff offers as a wellness lifestyle while layering in these additional forms of wellness and concepts that the practitioners will share,” says Lavin. “The Lowcountry is a region centered on community, joining together and lifting one another up, and this event will be one more amazing way to do that.”
