Arrive at Sunset

Arrive at Sunset
Words by Sarah Margaret Shelton

We pulled up at sunset. Checked in and hopped on the elevator up to my room. We had just arrived at Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa. We only live an hour or so up 65, but when we opened our door and saw the view, it felt like we were worlds away. It was about 7:30pm, and I had just caught the most glorious orange hues as the sun was setting over the Gun Island Chute—a peaceful and calming welcome to an impactful weekend ahead.

The goal of spending a weekend in Montgomery was to finally check out the Legacy Museum. The history and importance of this landmark was on our bucket list for a reason. When researching a place to stay we discovered the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa is walking distance from the Legacy Museum.

After a night of indulging in room service, we woke up early, grabbed a coffee, and spent over four hours at the Legacy Museum. Wow—what a powerful and moving experience. There is no way to fully describe the importance of this experience except to encourage one to GO. Drive to Montgomery and take the time to learn and soak in the powerful stories told within the Legacy Museum.

After such a powerful morning, we needed a place to go to decompress. We walked back to the hotel and quickly found a brewery that was also walking distance away! We made our way over to Common Bond Brewery to discuss and digest our morning. It was the perfect oasis we needed after such a heavy morning.

We had plans to go out that evening, but instead opted in for another quiet evening at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa. The view and room service were just too good to pass up!

Our trip to Montgomery was impactful and the cherry on top is that we had an oasis just a walk away at all times. I already know where we will be booking our stay for the wedding we will be attending early next Spring… and I'll be sure to arrive at sunset.
