Desserting in Oxford, MS: Our Five Favorites

Desserting in Oxford, MS: Our Five Favorites

Words by Louisa Martin

1. High Rise Doughnuts

The owners of the Oxford Creamery made a new venture in High Rise Doughnuts. But these aren’t your typical doughnuts. Rather than classic doughnut batter, they use croissant dough, which makes for massive, fluffy indulgences in a variety of flavors. Take Super Crunch, composed of caramelized Rice Krispies and a balsamic raspberry drizzle. For chocolate lovers, indulge in a decadent chocolate cream filled croissant, topped with dark chocolate icing and rolled in cocoa sugar. More traditional menu items include cake and yeast donuts in classic flavors and also more innovative takes like Key Lime Pie. On game days, the shop makes specialty “powder blue” doughnuts for Rebel fans.

2. The Oxford Creamery

Local flavor and the Oxford’s natural city charm is on full display at the Oxford Creamery. Owners, Hudson and Lo Magee, say that the shop’s goal is to “celebrate Mississippi’s food culture by using the ingredients and flavors of [the] region.” This statement is embodied in the ever-changing menu, which reads like a love letter to Mississippi’s unique food culture. Popular flavors include Banana Puddin, Garden Basil, Sweet Corn and Blueberry Crisp alongside classics like chocolate and vanilla, as well as vegan options like Mango Sorbet. To get the full scoop, opt for a flight. The menu also includes a full coffee menu, and you can marry the two by grabbing an afternoon affogato—a scoop of your favorite flavor with a shot of espresso poured over.

3. Bottletree Bakery

Beloved by locals, Bottletree Bakery has been an Oxford tradition for more than three decades. The menu is stocked with decadent favorites like berry brioches, brownies with white chocolate chip and graham cracker crust, and serious sized cinnamon rolls. Oxford is one of City Hall Cheesecake’s  three Mississippi locations, along with Hernando and Southaven. The bakery offers more than a hundred cheesecake flavor options, all baked fresh daily or to order. Some of the favorite flavors include original, turtle, and the infamous white chocolate raspberry. The bakery also caters to those with limited diets. Options include keto-friendly cheesecake bites or a wide variety of gluten-free treats. Cheesecake for all!
