Editor's Letter: Harvest 2021

Words by Shelly Brown

The issue you are holding has been a long time coming. At the beginning of 2021, we launched our home section. Our place of origin is an essential part of our story, and home has become an essential part of our magazine. We love beautiful design, and we love a special place to gather and share—we love home.

In the fall of 2020, amid the pandemic, we broke ground on our first-ever Good Grit showhome. Gutting the 1960’s mid-century ranch was like a physical manifestation of our favorite stories. It started as something broken and neglected, but we took that baby down to the studs, saw all of the hidden secrets (like rotten cast iron pipes and termite damage)—and with lots of love and great design, we brought her back to life.

There were days we didn’t think we would finish, days that other people told us we couldn’t do it, and days that we were sure we took on too much. But we did it. It is a space where livability is paramount, and quality products abound. With partners like Industry West, Circa lighting, and Flooret, our showhome inspired visitors towards what they could do with their own spaces.

We turned to the multi-talented photographer and author, Alyssa Rosenheck, to capture the feel of the space that we created and for the perfect cover shot. Lots of love went into creating what we see as our version of a modern southern home. It’s a place that feels comfortable and safe, a place to create, and a place to share your story. Welcome home.
