Words by Claire Pool
At the height of the holiday season, there is little to no time to take for yourself for a little rest and relaxation. Luckily, Pensacola’s Foo Foo Fest takes place before the hectic rush of holidays begins. So call up your girls and get planning!
This 12-day affair celebrates the local artists and cultures of Pensacola, with big events and exciting happenings. They call the festival a celebration of food, art, theater, music, and events served with a side of Southern sophistication.
Festival weekends are the perfect way to tour a city and all it has to offer. While all the events of Foo Foo Fest are happening at all times of the day, you can pick and choose which ones you want to explore. Interested in trying one of Pensacola’s best brunch spots, The Grand Marlin, in the morning and head to do some holiday shopping at the festival’s markets afterward? The calendar of events allows for such a flexible schedule that you and your girls can fit in all you want into one weekend.
If you’ve got foodies in your group, they’re going to love what all Pensacola has to provide. With miles of beach-front restaurants, you’ll have a hard time choosing which one to go to. We recommend Agapi, for those who love a light Mediterranean fare, or Drift, for an upscale night out. Foo Foo Fest also presents an evening with Chef Blade Herring at Jackson’s Steakhouse. Plan ahead and purchase tickets to this five-course food tasting ranging from Asian fusion to Southern homestyle cuisines. This event takes place on November 4th only, so get your tickets quick!
If you’ve got an adventurous group, Pensacola’s new Glow Paddle gives guided nighttime kayaking along a select part of the coast. Their clear bottom kayaks with waterproof lights glowing around you as you float. Plan ahead to book a sunset sail or a nighttime stargazing session in the comfort of your glowing kayak. Foo Foo Fest also hosts a Gulf Coast Quilt Trail scavenger hunt. A tradition not limited to just Pensacola, the Quilt Trail is something you can start on your vacation and continue beyond. With over 8,000 quilt squares across the 50 states, you can spot more on your drive home from your weekend away.
On your last night, get dressed up and celebrate with a luxe picnic on the beach. These pre-planned elegant picnics provide comfortable seating, beautiful table settings, fresh flowers, and much more for the perfect Instagram-able finale to your weekend. Bring a bottle of champagne to cheer for a wonderful weekend before returning to reality. Top it off with a night at the Jazz for Justice event hosted by Foo Foo Fest and you have yourself a weekend you’ll never forget.
