If you grew up in the South, you probably grew up loving gumbo. You might have a preference too––andouille sausage only, with shrimp, with crawfish, or with chicken? Dark roux or light? Almost all of them have the holy trinity of vegetables: celery, bell pepper, and onion. All of them are delicious, and all of them are ready for you to try at The Sandestin Gumbo Festival.
The Sandestin Gumbo Festival is one of the largest and most popular food events on Florida’s Emerald Coast, and it’s coming back this February for its 30th year. The weekend kicks off on February 14th from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a delicious seafood boil at Hammerhead’s Bar & Grille.
The main event starts on Saturday at noon. Guests will get to sample a variety of gumbo, then cast their vote for the “People’s Choice” winner. Than, celebrity judges will choose the “Area’s Best.” It’s the best gumbo cook-off on the Gulf Coast!
While sampling, guests can groove to live music, featuring Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe. Children’s activities will also be available. There’s something for everyone to enjoy!
Another crowd favorite is back this year––The Best Bloody Mary’s at the Beach competition. Sponsored by Bombora Vodka, guests will get to sip on the finest bars’ and restaurants’ bloody mary’s, then pick a favorite. Your vote could help someone win the title of Best Bloody Mary at the Beach!
We could think of no better place for this fun and lively festival than the Village of Baytowne Wharf. They say the best way to get to know a community is through the local restaurants and businesses, and the Sandestin Gumbo Festival provides the perfect opportunity to learn all about the village. This event features the best of the panhandle culinary scene. Between yummy gumbo and bloody marys, children’s activities, and live music this festival is not just medi-okra!
