The Whole Scoop
Words by Louisa Martin
The Whole Scoop is the little ice cream shop that could. Located right outside of Birmingham in Hoover, Alabama, The Whole Scoop is making a bigger impact than just their flavors.
Owner, David Cohen, celebrated the shop's tenth anniversary at the beginning of March. David takes pride in the ways that his shop connects the Hoover community and promotes family.
He shares, “We have had such an amazing time taking care of our Hoover community, and it is incredible to see the community return the love by taking such good care of us too. Our concept has been realized: The Whole Scoop is a neighborhood ice cream shop. When you walk in the store, hundreds of photos line our walls of the families that enjoy our ice cream and helped to make our vision a reality.”
Their emphasis on community expands beyond just Hoover. Last month, David brought his ice cream cart to Samford University, located minutes away in Homewood, Alabama. Here, students were able to indulge in six different selections and were automatically entered into a raffle with each purchase. Engaging with college students was a key way to expand the family feel and customer loyalty out of Hoover.
While The Whole Scoop sees community as an integral part of their business, they take their ice cream pretty seriously too! New Spring and Summer flavors include Mango, Peach, and Creamsicle. Other menu favorites include Mint Cookies and Cream, Krazy Kookie Dough, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Cookies and Cream, and Cherry Italian Ice.
