After a long cold winter, it’s time to emerge from hibernation and take a Southern road trip to see spring bloom, fabulous flora coming alive in a treasure trove of vibrant color.
Asheville, NC
Tucked in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Asheville is the perfect place to enjoy spring blooms. While the area continues to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, spring brings an ever-present promise of infinite hope. Asheville needs thoughtful visitors now more than ever. Consider cruising open sections of the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, the surrounding mountains awash with the color of flaming azaleas, dwarf iris, and rhododendron. Visit America’s largest home, the iconic Biltmore Estate and Gardens. Built by George Vanderbilt and opened to family and friends for the first time on Christmas Eve in 1895, Vanderbilt commissioned Frederick Law Olmsted to design the gardens, and in spring they are particularly stunning with over 75,000 tulips. Guests should also block out time to walk through its stunning conservatory. The western North Carolina flower viewing continues at Asheville Botanical Garden and The North Carolina Arboretum which features “engaging indoor and outdoor exhibits focused around science, education, arts and culture,” or at nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park where native blooms line the trails. Everywhere you look, spring is on full display in Asheville.

For 10 days in March, Macon is home to the International Cherry Blossom Festival, when the city of Macon throws a pink party celebrating the natural beauty of this charming area that comes alive in soft pink blossoms. The annual festival features concerts with national recording artists, local artisans, parades, and more.
