A few things Greenwood, Mississippi does really well:

Long dinners.
Good music.
Strong coffee.
Stories.
And making you want to stay an extra night.

We’ve been going down a bit of a Greenwood rabbit hole lately through their “Soul Mate” series, which highlights locals sharing their favorite places around town: where they eat, explore, unwind, and bring friends when they visit (that’s the real intel we’re all looking for when we travel).

Honestly, that’s probably the best way to experience a place like Greenwood. Through people who actually live there.

One local points you toward a perfect dinner at Giardina’s. Another sends you digging deeper into Delta blues history. Someone else reminds you to leave room in your schedule for wandering downtown shops or delighting over cocktails a little longer than planned.

The more we learn, the more Greenwood starts feeling like the kind of Southern town we love most: interesting without trying too hard.

You can spend a day exploring Civil Rights landmarks and Freedom Trail sites, take a cooking class at Viking Cooking School, hear live music, eat incredibly well, and still feel like you barely scratched the surface.

And if you’re more of a “plan the trip around the food” person, Greenwood absolutely holds its own there, too. Fan & Johnny’s, Serio’s, Giardina’s…there’s a reason people talk about the Delta the way they do.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a summer road trip idea that feels a little different than the usual beach weekend or mountain escape, Greenwood deserves a spot on your list.
