We’re a magazine, so naturally, we have strong feelings about GOOD books. Around here, there’s always one or two that get passed around—dog-eared, talked about, and recommended more than once.
We asked a few members of our team to share the ones they’d pass along without hesitation. Here’s what made the list.
Sarah Cait’s Pick
The Secret Life of Bees
Author: Sue Monk Kidd
A story about loss, found family, and the goodness of people, this is a book that makes you feel a million different things, including (but not limited to) grief, warmth, and abounding hope.
Caroline’s Pick:
Theo of Golden
Author: Allen Levi
It is the most touching book about the impact of kindness in society.
Brittany’s Pick:
The Department of Speculation
Author: Jenny Offill
A quick, easy read that explores the uncertainties of life and love through a puzzle-like narrative that you piece together along the way.
Cat’s Pick:
Famesick: A Memoir
Author: Lena Dunham
Though I’m only halfway done, it just feels like a must read for anyone who has ever crossed paths with the show Girls or muttered negativity (like I have) about Lena Dunham.
Shivani’s Pick:
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store
Author: James McBride
It’s a layered, deeply human story about community, secrets, and the quiet ways people protect each other when the world gives them every reason not to.
Sarah Margaret’s Pick:
Project Hail Mary
By: Andy Weir
A perfect excuse to literally transport out of our world. I was captivated the entire time!
Chandler’s Pick:
Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness
Author: Ingrid Fetell Lee
Joyful is the kind of book that makes you look up from the page and suddenly notice how much color, light, and magic you have been walking past your whole life.
