Chattanooga Deserves a Spot on Your Bucket List

Chattanooga has a knack for sneaking up on you with its charm. Sure, you’ve probably heard of the “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” but this town is so much more than an old swing tune. It’s quirky, it’s cool, and it’s packed with just enough surprises to keep you coming back for more.

The historic Southside is Chattanooga’s entertainment heart. Here, many of the city’s old buildings have undergone a modern glow-up with vibrant restaurants, great bars, and even better vibes. During the day, the streets are bustling, with folks taking a break to sip on cocktails and snack on freshly shucked oysters at STIR. By night, Station Street turns into a lively hotspot with music pouring out of places like The Boneyard and Westbound Honky Tonk. Whether you’re catching a local band or sipping whiskey at Chattanooga Whiskey’s Experimental Distillery, the Southside just gets it. And the best part? The pedestrian-friendly vibe makes it the perfect place to wander and stumble upon something totally unexpected.

Rock City Gardens in Chattanooga Tennessee

For a change of pace, head to St. Elmo, a little gem of a neighborhood sitting pretty at the base of Lookout Mountain. On the way, stop at Chattanooga’s most unique attraction: The International Towing & Recovery Museum. Yeah —you read that right—a tow truck museum! And don’t miss the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway, a jaw-dropping ride that takes you up at a wild 72.7% grade. The views from the top? Let’s just say they’ll make your Instagram followers jealous.

Speaking of Lookout Mountain, this place is an adventurer’s paradise. Ruby Falls, the largest underground waterfall in the U.S., feels like something out of a movie. If heights are your thing, zipline through the treetops or conquer the climbing tower at Ruby Falls’ High Point ZIP Adventure. And Rock City? It’s like stepping into another world, complete with panoramic views of seven states, whimsical gardens, and a magical Fairyland Caverns experience that might just make you believe in fairy tales again.

Mike and Leticia Do Chattanooga

Mike: I love the topography of Chattanooga. It’s adventurous, and it feels like you’re in a town on the edge. People there are runners, bicyclists, and hikers. Chattanooga’s got a huge culinary scene that’s been there for generations, and a lot of new restaurants are popping up—I love the new Warehouse Row area.

Leticia: Chattanooga has all the great food you would find in a big city, but with more nature. They’re a part of the Trail of Tears and a lot of interesting things like that.

Mike’s Tip: I love going to small town museums. That’s another place where you can really meet someone that’s obviously passionate about their area and wanting to share different places that you can visit when you’re in town.
